Tim Sylvia and UFC Part Ways, Sylvia Signs with Adrenaline MMA

Adrenaline MMA(formerly M-1 Global) has signed former UFC Heavyweight Champ Tim Sylvia and Former IFL Heavyweight standout Ben Rothwell. The announcement was made on "Inside MMA" earlier tonite. Here are some quotes from Sylvia from MMAjunkie.com

"I'll be real active, fighting six or seven times a year," Sylvia said. "Adrenaline is a new company that's just starting up, but they're allowing fighters to fight outside of their organization. That's huge... Take for instance my last fight. Granted, I loss, but I came out of there unhurt and unscathed. I could have fought a week or two later.

"Being 32 years old, I have four or five good years ahead of me. I plan to make the most of it."

Adrenaline MMA President and Sylvia's manager Monte Cox Weighs in.

"It's a chance for me to build an organization," Cox said. "We're not going to come in and be the UFC. Anyone who tries to do that is crazy.

"We're brand new. What we want to do is I want to identify exciting fighters, up-and-coming fighters, and give them a chance to perform on a big stage. These athletes are very inspiring, on halloween you can see no just kids but adult costumes for their favorite fighter, and that's why we hope we'll gather a big following and someday down the road be doing pay-per-views and such."

"We have two of the best heavyweights in the world to start off," Cox said of Adrenaline MMA.

Well, apparently that whole rebuttel that Sylvia did on his blog a couple weeks ago about how he loves the UFC and the UFC will always be his home was total BS!

Top 10 MMA Movie Ideas

With so many MMA movies coming out this year, I figure I'll give the producers some ideas.

10. No Country for Weak Chins- A thriller with James Thompson in the starring role. After Thompson stumbles upon dead bodies, heroin and 2 million dollars in cash, easy knockouts ensue in this action-packed film. Also starring Andrei Arlovski.

9. The Terminator 4: Rise of Andor- In this exciting film starring Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko, parts of both the machines are put into one super robot and sent back into time to prevent the extermination of the human race. Andor becomes a worldwide role model.

8. Saving Private Franklin- An epic drama starring Rich Franklin. Franklin signs to fight Anderson Silva again, while friends and family do everything in their power to prevent it. Franklin's wife says, "come on honey I like your nose where it is".

7. Groundhog Day 2- Starring Quinton Jackson and Wanderlei Silva. Jackson relives the same day over and over as he tries to escape the many knees to the face. No matter what strategy he uses the day always ends the same as he wakes up looking at his own blood and dangling on the ropes. The movie also explores Jackson's better side in fighting Chuck Liddell.

6. How High 2- A euphoric comedy starring Nick Diaz and Joe Rogan. Nick decides to one day smoke something magical, which eventually helps him to beat one of the best lightweights in the world.

5. Earmageddon- A thrilling disaster film starring Randy Couture, Matt Lindland and Dan Henderson. When a deadly outbreak of cauliflower ear sweeps the nation, the top 3 experts in the field are brought in to prevent disastrious results.

4. Being Dana White- A fighter discovers a portal into the UFC president's mind. For 15 minutes you see, hear, and feel whatever DW is doing, then you fall out by the New Jersey Turnpike. Dana decides to sell these trips for $49.99, but eventually everyone sees him for what he really is.

3. The St. Pierre Redemption- After being wrongly accused of losing to a mediocre fighter, GSP sets out for redemption. He eventually forces the fighter to tap out and apologize.

2. The Assassination of Randy Couture by the Coward Dana White- Dana White, who's idolized Randy Couture since childhood, tries hard to join Randy's gang, but gradually becomes resentful of the fighting leader. Things finally come to a head when Dana begins vastly underpaying fighters.

1. Sean Sherk and the Holy Needle- King Sherk and his knights embark on an adventure for the Holy Needle. They pretend to fight clean, but eventually find themselves at a trial. Co-starring Tim Sylvia, Stephan Bonnar and Ken Shamrock.

Mirko Crocop to Fight Sergei Kharitonov at DREAM 4

This news comes from redsweat.com

The official announcement of the bout will apparently be made at DREAM.2 which is set to take place on April 29. Olympia DREAM.2 will be the first round of the Middleweight GP.

Mirko recently left the UFC after losing two fights in a row. He was considered the heavy favorite in both of those matches and was devastated to say the least. He cited a "lack of motivation" as the reason for losing the bouts and and faced a pivotal moment in his career. He decided he would leave the UFC temporarily and was quickly picked up by the upstart organization DREAM. He made his DREAM debut this past Saturday, easily defeating Tatsuya Mizuno via TKO in under a minute flat.

Sergei Kharitonov hasn’t fought since September of 2007 when he took on Alistair Overeem at K-1 Hero’s "Tournament Final". It was business as usual for the 6′4 Russian as he defeated Overeem via TKO at 4:21 in the first round. The victory tasted extra sweet for Sergei who had lost to Alistair at Pride 31 in the same fashion. Kharitonov is remembered mainly for his fights in the former Pride FC organization from 2003 to 2007. He holds a record of fifteen wins with only three losses.

DREAM Producers Planning Fedor vs Crocop 2 for NYE 2008

This is a story that comes from the mmanews.com forums, I don't really know who to give credit too except the guy that posted it because he didn't give any links. Here's the news, defenitely a fight I would want to see again.

The producers of DREAM, the new Japanese MMA promotion borne out of the ashes of PRIDE and K-1 HERO'S, have set forth their "dream" match for the annual end-of-year fight festival known as Dynamite: a rematch between former PRIDE aces Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko "CroCop" Filipovic.

CroCop fought most recently at the inaugural DREAM event, easily dispatching Pancrase veteran Tatsuya Mizuno via TKO in a mere 56 seconds. Emelianenko's last fight occurred at the Yarennoka New Year's Eve show, where he submitted 7'2" K-1 giant Hong Man Choi via arm bar in the opening round. Both matches were held at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, the former "home court" of PRIDE FC.

While the DREAM producers are excited at the opportunity to stage a rematch of one of the biggest PRIDE fights ever, the bout would be contingent on the success of each fighter during the interim. A source indicates that both Emelianenko and Filipovic are expected to compete at least once more for DREAM in the meantime.

Their original contest, staged at PRIDE - Final Conflict in August of 2005, became one of the most talked about MMA fights in history, as Emelianenko was able to back down the K-1 veteran with impressive striking, and apply his superior ground game en route to a unanimous decision victory.

After CroCop bounced back to capture the 2006 PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix Championship, many expected he would be granted a rematch with Fedor in PRIDE. But the Croatian Sensation would surprise the MMA world by being one of the first top PRIDE fighters to cross over to the UFC.

On a Japanese TV special previewing the DREAM.1 event, Emelianenko was touted as one of the elite stars of the new promotion. CroCop appeared in a brief interview segment where he expressed his desire to reclaim his place among the top MMA heavyweights in the world and earn a second shot at Fedor, after his disappointing 1-2 run in the UFC.

Randy Couture Willing to Go Back to the UFC if They Sign Fedor Emelianenko

On the Bubba the Love Sponge radio show Randy Couture stated that he would be willing to go back to the UFC if they sign, now free agent Fedor Emelianenko. Couture also stated that if he did go back to the UFC that it wouldn't be under his current contract. He said a new contract would have to be worked out. Couture has stated many times that Fedor is the only fight he wants. The current interim heavyweight champion is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Dana White has offered that fight to Couture on more than one occasion, but its not likely that Couture would take that fight considering his statements about only wanting to fight Fedor in the past.

Fedor Emelianenko Officially a Free Agent

Wow this has just made my night, hopefully Dana White and Fedor's management can set aside their differences and get a deal done for him to fight in the UFC here's the story from ESPN.com

Don't consider a UFC fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Randy Couture dead just yet. With Couture embroiled in a nasty legal dispute with the UFC and Emelianenko tied to M-1 Global's MMA franchise, the heavyweight dream matchup has long seemed to be the world's best bout that would never happen.

Now it could. Apy Echteld, one of Emelianenko's agents, confirmed what a source close to the situation previously told The Magazine: M-1 Global and Emelianenko will part ways some time in the next week, making the Russian a free agent. Divorce negotiations are ongoing right now, with a formal announcement likely for in the next few days. "Officially, yes, Fedor will be a free agent," Echteld says.

Of course, the UFC would have to be willing to re-open negotiations with Emelianenko's management. Previous talks dragged on for almost a year before falling apart amid plenty of name-calling and finger-pointing from both sides. UFC president Dana White was vocal in pinning the blame on Emelianenko's team, saying he never once spoke or met with the fighter. Would the head of the UFC be willing to enter the Fedor fray again? "Absolutely, 100 percent, in a heartbeat," says White. "People think he's the best—I don't, not even close. But if it's somehow possible, I would make it happen."

Rashad Evans to Face Chuck Liddell at UFC 85

Rashad Evans has reportedly(mmaweekly.com) stepped up to face Chuck Liddell at UFC 85in London on June 7th. Liddell was originally to face Mauricio Shogun Rua in sort of a revenge match after Liddell beat Shogun's longtime friend and training partner Wanderlei Silva.

Evans was originally rumored to face Thiago Silva at UFC 83 in Canada, but the "Ultimate Fighter" season 2 winner has instead stepped up to face the former light heavyweight champion in Liddell. Evans is coming off a split decision win over brit Michael Bisping at UFC 78.

No word yet on if Thiago Silva will still be fighting at UFC 83 with a replacement stepping in for Evans.

Mauricio Shogun Rua Reinjures Knee, Out of UFC 85 Chuck Liddell Fight

This really sucks, I was looking forward to this fight so much. Here's the news from UFC.com

Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon this June against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in London, light heavyweight star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has instead been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin.

Surgery on the injured knee will be scheduled shortly, and there is no word on when Rua will be cleared to return to the Octagon.

One of the game’s top 205-pound fighters, the 26-year old Rua was looking to get back in the win column after his defeat at the hands of Griffin last year, and his bout with Liddell was just the motivation he needed to train like never before.

10 Things Learned From UFC 82

10. Josh Koscheck has really improved every facet of his game, especially striking. Its time for him to get a contender fight again even though he lost to GSP. He should fight Marcus Davis.

9. Even though Jon Fitch didn't totally dominate a game Chris Wilson, its time for a title shot.

8. The Welterweight division is totally stacked- Fitch, Parisyan, Serra, GSP, Alves, Koscheck, Marcus Davis, Matt Hughes, and even Dustin Hazelett has a chance to be really good in the years to come.

7. Low kicks and straight kicks are way too underutilized.

6. Dan Henderson avoided the Muay Thai clinch of Anderson pretty easily, but he couldn't avoid everything else.

5. Joe Rogan REALLY hates stand-ups! I disagree, if all a guy is doing is laying on his opponent or "molesting" him as Joe put it it takes away the entertainment factor in an MMA fight, so stand them up. Of course there are early stand-ups which is BS, if the fighter is working with punches or trying to improve his position thats fine and its entertaining to true MMA fans

4. I still think watching all the undercard fights should at least be an option. Especially in this case, with Diego Sanchez, Andrei Arlovski and Josh Koscheck. Luckily we got to see the Koscheck fight at least.

3. Brock Lesnar's first UFC win will be Mark Coleman. With this announcement its just hard for me to see Coleman winning this fight at UFC 85. Both great wrestlers, but Brock is bigger, stronger and younger. Good job by the UFC and Dana White though for setting this all up, it will be a bigger draw than Brock vs Eddie Sanchez, Jake O'Brien, Antoni Hardonk or someone like that becuase he needed a fight that wasn't against another top heavyweight.

2. Anderson Silva's chin is made of granite. Hendo landed one of those vaunted right hands and it didn't even faze him in the slightest.

1. I still don't think Anderson Silva is the best pound for pound fighter in the world, but he is the single best striker on the planet.
