Yes but the single match he won won him the tournament. His initial lost was made a no-contest and when no one else could continue to the finals Sakuraba and Silviera rematched for the final.

Concerning Evan Tanner and the triangle chokes, Sherdog fight finder has him listed as having won five fights by triangle choke. HOwever, Miguel Torres is listed as having seven wins by triangle choke. But if arm triangles count too, then that adds four to Tanner's total (9) and none to Torres' (7).

And since an arm triangle is still a triangle choke, the fact is true.

In 1993 at the U.S. Sambo Championships in Norman, Oklahoma, undefeated Rickson Gracie was matched with Ron Tripp. The 6 foot, 205 pound Tripp threw the 5 foot 10 inch, 185 pound Gracie to the canvas by "Uchi mata" in 47 seconds and Gracie's shoulders touched the floor, thus giving Tripp "absolute" victory under U.S. Sambo rules. Rickson disputed this loss, claiming he was misinformed of the rules of the event.
